Welcome to our Jane Eyre Unit Study – Additional Links Page!
I wanted to create a spot where you can go on rabbit trails to learn more as a family, but I don’t want you to get lost on those trails and fall down the rabbit hole of the internet! (#mamaoverwhelm)
So I did a lot of research to find out what’s out there regarding these topics, then narrowed them down to offer you the best.
I have thoroughly looked through these sites, but of course I haven’t read every word, so please preview to determine what’s a good fit for your family. Have fun!

An incredible unit created by the UK National Archives! Proceed through each bullet point you see in the graphic on the right, or print them out here.
Beautifully done and many of the units include interactive online games – just look for the pink buttons that say Activity at the top of each page!

These can keep little hands busy while you read aloud some of the books from this unit study!

Such a fun site to explore! Includes all things Victorian: decor, food (a few recipes, too), lifestyle, and entertainment!
The section about the Victorian Governess is especially helpful when it comes to understanding Jane Eyre’s position in historical context.
* History of Victorian Christmas
This site has a wonderful explanation of how many of our modern-day Christmas traditions have their roots in Victorian times.
It also includes a huge section of crafts, decorations, recipes and more so you can get a taste for a Victorian Christmas yourself!
* Who Wants to Be a Cotton Millionaire? BBC Online Games
This selection of interactive games from the BBC is absolute gold when it comes to learning about the Victorian Era!
You and your kids can choose from Who Wants to Be a Cotton Millionaire?, Muck and Brass, Whose House Is It?, and Victorian Women’s Rights.

* The Bronte Parsonage Museum
The official Bronte Parsonage site features a beautiful wealth of information all about the family (though it does include book spoilers here and there).
I especially enjoyed scrolling through the photos of the important places that featured in their lives.
* BBC News: Rare Charlotte Bronte book Returns to Museum
A recent news story from 2019–so fascinating (though it does contain spoilers).
Dame Judi Dench, who is actually president of the Bronte Society and plays Mrs. Fairfax in the most recent film, helped make this happen!
* The Reader’s Guide to Jane Eyre
A treasure trove of Jane insights and extras (of course all with spoilers so don’t click anything unless you want to know, LOL!)
It includes a helpful inferred timeline of the novel’s events, Charlotte’s possible inspirations for Thornfield Hall and the other locations in the book, and even a translation of Adele’s French dialogue.
